SWOLF Calculator
Calculate SWOLF from pool length, length time and stroke count, with distance per stroke, stroke rate and scenario comparisons.
Count one arm consistently, such as right-arm strokes only. Many recreational 25 m lengths land around 16-24.
The scale is a rough 25 m freestyle reference. A 50 m result is normalized by course distance, so comparisons remain approximate.
SWOLF scenarios
| Scenario | SWOLF | Change | Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 fewer strokes | 38 | -2 | Good |
| 1 fewer stroke | 39 | -1 | Good |
| Current | 40 | - | Good |
| 2 seconds faster | 38 | -2 | Good |
| 1 second and 1 stroke faster | 38 | -2 | Good |
One saved stroke changes SWOLF the same as one saved second. Whether time, DPS or both are easier to improve depends on technique, stroke and training goal.
Calculate SWOLF score
SWOLF, or Swim Golf, combines length time and stroke count into one swim-efficiency metric. It is best used to compare repeated swims in the same pool, stroke and measurement method.
t is length time in seconds.
Read SWOLF with context
- A lower SWOLF usually means less time, fewer strokes or both.
- Pool length, turns, body size, stroke style and device counting can change the score.
- Use the scenarios to compare time and stroke-count changes without treating SWOLF as a universal ranking.
