Long Division Calculator
Divide whole numbers with a long division layout, quotient digits, products, remainders, brought-down digits, and remainder checks.
Non-negative whole numbers, dividend up to 16 digits.
Divisor up to 8 digits; decimals are not supported.
Long division with remainders
Long division intent in English usually expects quotient digits, products to subtract, brought-down digits, and the final remainder. This calculator keeps those parts visible in a written-work layout.
a is the dividend, b is the divisor, q is the quotient, and r is the remainder.
r must be non-negative and smaller than b for integer division with remainder.
- Use a dividend up to 16 digits and a divisor up to 8 digits.
- See where zeroes are written in the quotient when the divisor does not fit.
- Check the answer by multiplying the divisor by the quotient and adding the remainder.
How long division works
Start with the first part of the dividend where the divisor fits. Choose the largest quotient digit that does not make the product exceed the current partial dividend, subtract it, bring down the next digit, and repeat.
