Tip Calculator
Calculate a restaurant tip, total bill, and equal split per person with common US tip presets and a custom percentage.
Estimate a voluntary tip, total bill, and equal split. Enter the pre-tax subtotal or receipt total, depending on what you want to tip on.
If a service charge is already included, use this only for any extra voluntary amount. The split is even and does not account for different orders.
What this tip calculator does
This calculator estimates a voluntary restaurant or service tip, adds it to the bill, and splits the total evenly across a group. It uses common US tip presets and lets you enter a custom percentage.
tip is the tip amount, bill is the bill amount, and p is the selected tip percent.
total is the bill plus tip, bill is the original bill amount, and tip is the calculated gratuity.
perPerson is the equal share per person, total is the bill plus tip, and people is the split count.
Pre-tax, post-tax and service charges
Many users calculate a tip from the pre-tax food and drink subtotal, while others use the post-tax total shown on the receipt. This calculator uses whatever bill amount you enter, so enter the base you want to tip on.
| Preset | Typical use | Tip on a $100 bill |
|---|---|---|
| 15% | Basic common preset | $15.00 |
| 18% | Middle preset | $18.00 |
| 20% | Common restaurant preset | $20.00 |
| 25% | Higher voluntary tip | $25.00 |
