Common mistakes
- 0.5% is not 50%. Half a percent is 0.005 as a decimal and 1/200 as a fraction.
- Reduce the fraction. 50% starts as 50/100, but the simplified fraction is 1/2.
- Values above 100% create improper fractions. For example, 150% is 3/2 or 1 1/2.
- Keep the sign. A negative percent remains negative in decimal and fraction form.
