Maximum Heart Rate Calculator
Estimate maximum heart rate from age with common formulas and compare target heart-rate zones for exercise intensity planning.
What maximum heart rate formulas can and cannot tell you
Maximum heart rate formulas estimate an age-predicted value. They are useful for rough exercise-zone planning, but measured max heart rate varies widely between people. Medication, heart rhythm problems and cardiovascular disease can make formula zones inappropriate.

Target heart-rate zones
Simple percent-of-maximum zone calculation.
| Zone | Percent of HRmax |
|---|---|
| Light | 50% to 60% |
| Moderate | 60% to 70% |
| Vigorous | 70% to 85% |
| Very hard | 85% to 95% |
The American Heart Association presents target heart-rate zones as general averages. Use perceived exertion and medical guidance when a formula does not match your actual fitness or health status.
